Zig Ziglar was an American author and motivational speaker. Ziglar was also a salesman of some renown, a confident man who would see a bag of coal and immediately think of Newcastle as a prime market. As a salesman, and a good one, Ziglar understood the complexities of personal connections within the business world, in particular the importance of trust. Being respected is great, he would suggest, but being trusted is great for business.

Trust grows when a relationship flourishes, and at MLC, we certainly appreciate the value of relationships. However, to us, relationships matter not just as a brand value but as something we believe in at the core of our organisation. While we appreciate that strong relationships help us do better business, we like to think they also help our customers, employees and suppliers.

The relationship with our employees is the engine that runs MLC, and we certainly don’t want it to break down! Respect and reward are just two of the factors that keeps this relationship strong and propels our company to greater heights in providing exceptional customer service.

Meanwhile, the rapport we enjoy with our customers helps us better understand and meet their specific requirements, and while we take our digital marketing seriously, we know there’s nothing like a face to face meeting with the people who buy our products. To help us achieve this, we have two dedicated relationship managers who travel New Zealand meeting store owners and Head Office staff to ensure we maintain good relationships at all levels.

MLC also values the relationships we have built with our suppliers. For imported products, we visit the supplier regularly, no matter what country they’re from. This gives us the opportunity to monitor the quality of the product we buy from them, and within a partnership based on mutual respect we can be honest in our appraisal of what we buy, and candid in expressing to our suppliers what our customers expect. When there is enough goodwill in a relationship, we can be clear in expressing what we need, so we put a lot of effort into building and maintaining every association we have with a supplier.

Relationships matter. At all levels, and for all sorts of reasons. MLC sees this as the foundation for our company success, but also as the bedrock of job satisfaction for our employees, superior service for our customers, and exceptional quality from our suppliers. It’s a brand value, and a personal belief, so whether you’re a customer, employee or supplier, rest assured that maintaining a strong relationship with you is at the very heart of what we do.
